Natural Acne Remedies

Hello, my pretties! So you've been dealing with this annoying thing called acne. It's red, irritating, can leave scars, and can even be painful when you move your face, right? I know. I've been there, and I've felt your pain, literally.

Here are some all-natural ways to fight the war on acne, but not the war on your face. Let's start treating it from within before it has a chance to set off explosives. Sound like a good deal? Cool, let's get a move on it!

I feel that everything we put INSIDE our bodies matters a lot, too, so let's ask some questions:

Aside from your obvious breakouts, are you allergic to anything (i.e. dairy? gluten?)? How often are you washing your pillow cases? I know it sounds silly, but we have to go there. Often, the things that are too simple are overlooked... like do you sleep with animals subjecting your skin to pet dander?

Don't get me wrong, my pugs are like my kids, too... but kids don't shed that way or sniff and pee on other kids faces! ;) Get my drift?

So I'm gonna pull a Jerry Maguire on ya here. Help me, help you.

What's your diet like? Do you eat meat and if so, is it hormone-free meat? What makeup do you use?Do you use SPF? Are you on birth control pills or another contraceptive? Have you recently discontinued them? What facial products are you using? If you're using prescription medications are they working? Are they drying out your skin? If so, what are you doing to keep it hydrated?

These are some of the questions you need to continuously ask yourself, as long as your having acne issues.

I see a lot of red, irritated skin in this field. Sometimes, we just need to calm the skin, and let it rest. Do you know that if you pick at your blemished skin before the infection surfaces (puss) that you can actually spread infection below it? Yikes.

Skin needs recovery time just like our brains do. Have you ever noticed how when you get a good night's sleep your skin looks better for some reason? Or after a facial how it feels rejuvenated, taut, and more hydrated? That's because your skin, body and mind are stressed and need to decompress.

Here are some tips to help you achieve clear, healthy skin:

1) Avoid consuming too much caffeine. It's irritating and can cause inflammation.
2) Drink green tea during day and chamomile at night (anti-inflammatory properties/anti-oxidants)
And while I'm at it, try eating anti-inflammatory foods... just google it. That's another post.
3) Before bed, try this drink: squeeze organic lemon juice in warm water and sweeten with natural sweetener (helps neutralize/balance the skin)
4) Take 30 mg of Zinc each day (studies show this helps acne by 30%)
5) Up your intake of Vitamin C & E (boosts the immune system/heals skin)
6) Use hydrating toner throughout day (when possible) that has astringent/hydrating properties.
7) Exercise/Meditate often... walk, yoga, anything to keep your stress level lower (that goes to face)
8) Use high quality product(s) with Salicylic or Glycolic Acid in them or try a Salicylic peel by a professional. *Aveda has a great product called Exfoliant. I use it once or twice a day and it's been life changing! I also carry a Glycolic Gel that you can wear under your makeup during the day!*
9) Use a calming serum or masque when you're skin feels stressed and/or in pain.
10) Get a good nights rest. Like I said before, your skin needs recovery time, too!

Hope these tips help. This one's dedicated to Sam, who I did a facial on today. Thanks for your trust in my services!

Happy healing!
