Achieving Healthy Skin: Questions to ask yourself

                                                                 Me & Momma!

There are so many factors that come in with understanding how to achieve beautiful, healthy skin. What's your diet like? Genetics? Are you dealing with hormonal issues? Are you on birth control? Have you stopped taking it lately? Are you allergic to anything (i.e., dairy?)? Are you cleaning your skin properly? What topical prescriptions are you using? and makeup? The list of questions go on, but these are things we'd discuss on a consultation, so you can ask yourself the same questions to get to the bottom of unwanted skin issues.

Once, I had a rash that kept reoccurring around my lip area. *Cringe* I went to the doctor, who then gave me a quick chat and list of all the things I could be allergic to & sent me on my way. I understand his reasoning, but I felt it wasn't anything I was eating (after a little trial period) and who else would know better as to what's going on with me than.... ME?! :) So, I began looking at products I was putting on my face. I discovered that when I stopped using a certain lip liner the rash went away. Bingo!!

My point is to pay attention to YOU. Often, beautiful or troubled skin can be attributed to (some) genetics (just look at your parents!) but often it's something you can control with some conscious effort, regardless. With so much of the world's problems, I feel powerless, but when it comes to taking care of our skin, we are in control!

As a young adult, I suffered from adult-acne (hormonal-related) after discontinuing my birth control, and went through a painful process of seeing dermatologists, and trying new topical meds, only to have an esthetician help me more than anyone! She listened, and gave me the most results-oriented, life-changing facial of my life! Thank you, Elizabeth (Orange Blossom in Austin, TX). I also did a lot of research, examined my diet, (I suggest reading Crazy Sexy Diet!) and got to know myself and skin like never before. I was determined to beat this, and I did.

So can you.

But it's an ongoing job, as my skin changes, and the world turns. Thankfully, there are resources out there, and there are people, like me, who want to genuinely help you make a difference. You deserve to be confident and feel beautiful, because you are.  Don't give up.... the power is yours to take back.
