Considering a Peel?

Here's the skinny on peels: If you've been thinking about getting a peel, there's probably a reason. Do you feel as though your skin has been doing its own thing while you've been busy with all the other important things in life (i.e., raising a family, working a demanding job, basking in the sun a little longer than planned?).

There are many reasons to get a peel, but here are just a few: you have acne, wrinkles, fatigued skin, hyper-pigmentation, age spots, or sun damage...

When considering a peel, it's important to know that limited to no sun exposure will be required for anywhere to 3-5 days, generally, unless it's an enzyme peel (recommended for summer). If you can't make that and an after-care commitment, you're putting yourself at risk of really damaging your skin, and defeating the purpose of getting a peel to begin with.

Bottom line, it's important to have a consultation with your esthetician before any peel is performed. And the REALLY SUPER GOOD NEWS is that almost everyone can benefit from a peel of some sort!!

Peels (sometimes) get a bad rap because they have the word "chemical" in front of them. Peels help get rid of acne causing bacteria, reduce pore size by cleaning out/exfoliating the skin on a deeper level than what simply washing the face can, and they increase the cell rate turnover, encouraging new younger looking skin to generate. Peels can help your body produce its own collagen, too, and increase elasticity, which is something we all lose with age.

If you want a deep exfoliation, to brighten the skin, lessen the appearance of wrinkles or to decrease blemishes, but you're not that comfortable with the idea of chemical peels, there are great, organic enzyme peels to choose from. There are also more superficial peels (aka light peels) that eat away the cell build up on the surface, like enzyme treatments. They are usually derived from things like fruits, or acids that are gentler, like lactic, and are generally great for sensitive types. So, there are many benefits/options that will help you achieve healthier, younger looking skin!

Questions? Think you may be right for a peel? Ask away...
