Do you suffer from acne? Don't fret! Here's some recovery tips.
Acne: a common problem I see working in the spa. Someone has acne and they're taking (general) doctor prescribed (not dermatologist) meds in conjunction with over-the-counter products they don't know much about.
First thing's first, what type of acne do you have?
Once you determine what type it is, you can best treat it with the aid of professionals. It breaks my heart when people spend all sorts of money on products and don't even know what they have, how to use it, or what the active ingredients are.
It's common for people to be over-using the wrong products.
So here's my advice...
1) See a dermatologist or reputable Esthetician. Determine what type of acne you have. Is it adult/hormonal, diet, lifestyle/stress? When do you have breakouts, are they're localized, etc., and how do you experience them (i.e., certain times of month, regularly)? Ideally, the professional will take a close look through a special lamp to determine what's going on.
2) Follow instructions/Be consistent. Whatever your prescribed plan is, follow it. A lot of results fail when people simply get too lazy to stick to it to see if it works.
3) Be present, Know what's working. If you use a product for two months and follow the instructions and see NO improvement, maybe it's time to revisit the doctor, or eliminate a product to figure out what's working/what's not working.
4) Eat well/Get some exercise/Massage. No matter what you do topically, if yucky stuff is going on underneath and your body becomes stagnant, your results will be slim. Even the face needs blood flow! There's great books like Crazy Sexy Diet, and Quantum Wellness, to help you get on the right track. If you're not a "reader" then go to audible.com and take advantage of 2 free audio books when you sign up (cancel at any time!). I heart audibles. :)
5) Get a facial regularly. When you have acne, there's an over-abundance of oil production. Getting a facial once a month and following up with the proper regimen can help you expedite your recovery/results.
6) Keep it calm. Acne is stressful enough. Add a stressful job, low income, hectic lifestyle, or emotional distress in the mix and you're just about doomed. You can stop the cycle by taking care of YOU. Try the following: Drink chamomile tea (anti-inflammatory/calming) at night and green tea during the day (anti-inflammatory/antioxidant). Take a hot bath with a relaxing oil (lavender) when you need to unwind. (Essential oils have an effect on you, even if you're unaware.) Or go for a walk. Did you know exercise releases endorphins? Get a massage. Did you know that massage for the face is one of the best things you can do for it? It increases circulation/blood flow and can actually change the way the skin lays on top of the muscle. :) That's right, good for wrinkles, too! :)
Now hop to YOU, kiddos!
And let me know if you have any questions... I'm always happy to help!
